Here are some pictures from the albums of a few happy owners who have given new homes and fresh starts to these lovely cats. If you are thinking about offering a home to one of our cats in care then take a look at these  pictures and you too could find yourself a success story.

SMUDGE

Smudge was a mum cat with kittens with FIV and was a long stay resident with Sarah one of our foster mums, with no suitable homing options coming up locally. Sarah was inspired by what she had heard at the CP conference earlier this year and emailed every CP branch and shelter in the country. Receiving four replies. One of these was from the Brighton branch who kindly put Smudge on their website. This resulted in Smudge being re-homed to a lovely couple with a sea view flat and another resident FIV cat.

The  Feline immunodeficiency virus (FIV) that Smudge has doesn't affect humans in any way (it is species specific).

Like human HIV the virus is passed by fluid transfer so fighting, biting & mating are the ways it is transferred to other cats - the cat can be handled normally & will behave just the same as any other cat - they are just more susceptible to infections as they have no immune system so it is best to keep them indoors so they do not come into contact with other animals.

We can provide you with our leaflet about FIV, you can look at the website for Feline Advisory Bureau which has very good information about all things to do with cats or you could talk to your own vet?

This is Smudge's new owner, Emma Criddle, talking about her new friend....

"After lots of thought I decided that a companion would be good for my other FIV cat, Bob. When we contacted Cats Protection we didn't hesitate when they mentioned Smudge, a young FIV cat who we renamed Maggie, and I agreed to take her without even meeting her.

"Words cannot explain the happiness and laughter these two cats have provided. Maggie has given Bob a new lease of life, she constantly plays with him and makes him run around, whereas before he was a very lazy boy.

"They are very sweet togther, and are often seen curled up like two furry prawns on the bed and are happy to let me cuddle up with them.

"One of the most amazing things to happen is that since we have had Maggie, Bob has never had a cold and his only trips to the vets have been for his annual booster.

Maggie has never been ill in any way at all - she is a healthy young feline and full of energy!

"Please believe me when I say they really are no different to a non-FIV cat. I hope that this success story will convince others to consider rehoming an FIV cat.

"I honestly can say it has been the best decision we could have made and I have rescued two cats that others overlooked.

"Please don't overlook these lovely cats because of FIV - do something great and give these cats a chance. They will love you and be eternally grateful."

Gibli (Binksy)

had all of his whiskers chewed off by his kitten playmates before he went to his new home - its good to see they grew back again !

Oscar

Here is a picture of Oscar in his new home.
He was one of your FIV cats (see above for more details about FIV) and is now doing really well in his new home.

His new owner says - "He seems very settled and happy and we are really getting to know each other now and we're so pleased we have him because he is such a lovely and affectionate cat".

Snoopy

I thought I would write to you and give you an update on how Snoopy is settling in.  He's been with me for nearly 2 months now and although there were a few teething problems (he liked to hide on top of the kitchen cupboard!) he has now developed in to the most wonderful companion I could ask for.

He still shouts at me all the time and we end up having lovely conversations. At night, he comes and cuddles up next to me and he has also now mastered the art of killing wayward toes. He is such a loving, affectionate and playful character that it's hard to imagine my life without him.

Please pass my thanks on to Rosemary for being such a wonderful foster mum to him. Oh, and can you also tell her that he's found his purr again. Please keep up the fabulous work that you do for those less fortunate that Snoopy.
